Song of the Farm
The day often begins with good mornings and conversation with beautiful smiles. Music floats through the air in all directions coming from the packshed, greenhouse, and fields. It’s a nice rotation of pop, rock, folk, disco and just about everything in between. A beautiful thing about being here is that there is music everywhere. You’ll catch a melody just about anywhere you listen coming from the crew humming and singing as we work. I find myself leaning a little closer to get a better listen.
Not only do the melodies come from the people who work here, you’ll also quickly find that the wind carries a tune as it moves through the crops and up and around the farm. The birds chirp cheerfully as we work around them, singing their sacred tune that seems so universal we almost understand it ourselves. The tractors humming along hard at work adding a bass and a deep hum to the collective song of the farm.
Laughter is another common element to this tune. It adds a magical twinkling light note on top. Conversations flow freely and laughter is abundant wherever you turn on this farm. I believe this is why our plants thrive here. They are perceptive and they can feel the joy and laughter and nurturing energy we have in our hearts each day, as we harvest and wash these delicious veggies that nourish our bodies and soul.
There is another tune to this song that connects to the universal song of life, and that is picking the last harvest of a bed before it gets tilled and new life will grow in it’s place. Our song on the farm is just part of the bigger collective song of our community and the world we live in. You beautiful readers have your own melodies and tunes that ripples into our community as you eat and buy our produce. The mmm yum sound when you take the first bite of a dish, the rhythmic chop of the knife on the cutting board, and the nourishment your body receives after each bite. Together our song is loud and beautiful and full of life and growth. Thank you for all you do in supporting us!
