Newsletter 7/25/18- Our Color is Rainbow
It’s becoming very colorful around the farm recently. The heat and long days, coupled with our good soil, hard work and attentive irrigation means that our crops our exploding with growth, nutrition and most fun of all, color! Sometimes the shear beauty of the produce is enough to make me swoon. Amazing that after so many years, I still feel in love with the sight of a perfectly shiny red radish, creamy white cauliflower, or endlessly deep purple bean.
This year, our color is rainbow. We are growing so many varieties of several different vegetables with the aim of having a mix of colors; we will mix them together for the final product to be a medley of all the colors available. Rainbow carrots are in the ground (ready soon!). This week in your share, you have a rainbow of beans- green, purple and wax. We also couldn’t decide which variety of beet you would most enjoy, so went with a rainbow selection of chioggia, red and gold!
Not only the produce, but also our fields are currently exploding with all manner of textures, colors and shapes. The dark, shiny upright corn; the fuzzy, round-shaped creeping squash; the airy fronds of carrots, all work together to create a symphony to delight our senses. In the midst of one bed is a small flower patch exploding with dark red, purple and pink, conveniently located near the driveway. Watching the crew pull over on their way home after work and stop to pick a bouquet warms my heart. Even after a long day of color immersion, they still take time to stop and bring more color home with them.
