Ready, Set, Go!

We are at that stage in the season where everything needs to be done at once: Transplant starts, seed starts in the greenhouse, irrigate, harvest, prep ground, move out and tag plant sales, go to market, pack CSA. Before we know it another week has gone by and more has gotten added to the to-do list than eliminated.

Although there is so much to do, the highest priority this week is to plant stuff in the ground! Broccoli, cabbage, kales, collards, strawberries, lettuce, scallions and more HAVE GOT TO GO OUT!
Last week, we got the potatoes in, and most of the strawberries, plus we spread all the fields with chicken manure pellets, in addition to building a tractor-mounted flame weeder and harvesting tons of tulips and greens. Sometimes I just have to remember that things ARE getting done, it is easy to focus on what there still is to do.

Also, last week, we added two new fabulous people to our crew: Amber Clifton and David Christensen. Amber is joining us for the season- Yay! She has worked at Finnriver Farm several years ago, and has worked in most restaurants around Port Townsend at one time or another. She’s going to be helping out at markets come July. David has worked at Red Dog on and off since the very first season in 2008! He is pitching in with the spring push and we are grateful for his help during this busy time.
