My Warm Welcome to the Red Dog Crew
Wheee, astonished, captivated. These are just a few words to describe my new adventure joining the Red Dog Farm crew. A few of us started our journey three weeks ago, and coming from hot and chaotic Texas farming, it’s been a joy of an adjustment. I joined an amazing crew built with love, respect, trust, and a thriving passion to provide scrumptious local food to their community, which a few of us newbies can now say we are a part of.
The farm is awakening from the mild winter, as some of you might agree with. The warm greenhouses are stocked with baby plants that will soon be transplanted into the fields, or found at the Red Dog Farmstand and other local outlets. The fields are coming alive with tractors bustling to prepare new fields, the harvesting of overwintered crops, and transplanting more baby plants for future feasts.
Every day on the farm is like a new mini adventure. Last week, we spent many hours planting strawberries that you will one day be able to pop in your mouth with a delicious satisfaction known it was grown with sound growing practices. We also planted many rows of a fan favorite, the Walla Walla sweet onion, alongside shallots. There are so many more planting days ahead of us. Yum! Yum! Yum!
Being new to the farm, it’s a blessing to come into such a welcoming place where many eaters enjoy the fruits of our labor. We look forward to continue providing y’all with high yum levels of organic produce! Thanks for supporting Red Dog Farm.
