Goodbye July
What amazing abundance she brings us today
The birds sing, the people swing
The plants plead for just a little more
Bugs prance waiting to be buried
Jean shorts fray from the wear
Heads are buzzed to escape the heat
Friends meet at the watering hole for a long, slow drink
Seed pods burst at the chance of another generation
Love burns at the backs of throats for we are grateful to see another season of sun
These are the times we have waited for
Ones with camaraderie, the song she sings as we sit at her bare feet
The crunch of a melon
The snap of a bean
A peach for the busker on the corner of the street
My baby is stained red from a berry breakfast
Fawns stop for a quick snack at the behest of mother deer
Walk on we must as the sea begins to glow
For if we don’t, stop will the flow
Tonight we lay our heads, hoping to be awaken again tomorrow
As we wave goodbye to the end of July
~Abby
