For the Appreciation of Hands

For the Appreciation of Hands

As I sit here, thinking of what to write about, I notice my hands and how they have changed through the years. They are currently becoming rougher, tougher, and quickly tanning from this spring’s sun! They show scars of previous times in my life. To me, hands can silently but loudly tell a story of someone. They are very becoming of our current time and place, job, hobby, etc. It’s amazing how much our hands do for us and the people around us!

Today, my hands have ground my coffee, pet my dog, driven me to work, cut a lovely slice of bread from Pane d’Amore, trellised the snap peas, moved sand bags and irrigation lines, shifted the tractor, put out insect netting, etc. Today, the hands of the rest of the crew have planted seeds, harvested the first carrots of the year!, cut chives and salad mix, washed green onions, fixed layflat irrigation lines, watered plants, written plans for the week, and so much more.

So with gratitude for our hands and the many hard working hands in this community, I want to take this moment to appreciate all they do for us. I hope you take the time to give them a nice massage every now and then and butter them up with your favorite balm – I’m currently enjoying a calendula salve and Burt’s Bees hand salve.
