Coming Together in Late Summer
Hello, end of August! Time has flown by this season and with only a week(ish) left before September and the onset of fall, it truly feels like this summer was too short. But working on the farm, feeling the heat of the sun, makes me reflect and be thankful for the opportunity to be part of a wonderful crew. All who make their way to Red Dog Farm, whether they’ve traveled along the Pacific Coast, made a farther trek from the East Coast, or come from somewhere in between, all share a joy in the work we do together. It’s not often you can find a group of people who are not just dedicated to the task at hand but also genuinely feel ecstatic to work alongside each other and get their hands dirty. And everyone does in fact end the day covered in dirt.
And this week we are happy to bring a new crop to your CSA, Ace Red Bell Peppers! Due to the unusual and chillier-than-normal start to our summer, it did take a little longer for these veggies to ripen than usual, but with the recent hot days, they’ve finally decided to make themselves available for your use. You can do many things with these peps: stuff them with your go-to cheese and choice of beans or meats, or chop up and use it with your favorite stir fried rice or noodles recipe. However you decide to use them, you can’t go wrong, and while they aren’t like their spicier cousins, they feel like the perfect addition to a late-summer/early fall dinner.
Though we may be heading towards the fall and cooler (but hopefully not cold) days, there is still plenty of sunlight to work by, and we’ll still be here producing all that we can–so don’t be afraid of your CSAs dwindling any time soon!
