Another Season of Success, Thanks to Your Support!
Another CSA season drawing to a close, another farm season slowing and winding down. Where does the time go?! It seems like only yesterday it was April and we were seeding baby lettuces, picking tulips, greeting our new 2025 crew, and packing your first CSA shares.
Thank you all for participating in our CSA program this year! Whether you joined us for just one month, or all nine months, we are thankful for your support. I hope that you ate well, learned some new recipes, maybe even tried something new and surprised yourself by enjoying it!
This has been another positive year for Red Dog Farm. Some highlights include building our new farmstand; a project that was a culmination of many years of planning, grant writing, and collaboration to make happen. If you haven’t been out to visit yet, please come on out!
We produced, harvested and packed hundreds of tons of produce for our community. A recent calculation revealed that we harvested 26,000 lbs of loose greens this year; that’s 13 tons of tiny leaves of salad mix, spinach and arugula.
We hired and trained new farmers, and all of us grew as farmers. Our crew is diverse, from crew members who first stepped foot on Red Dog (as their first farm job) in September, to some of our heavy hitters, who have been around for 6 or ten years and counting. One sure thing about farming is that nothing ever stays the same. This is great news for someone like me who enjoys continuous learning and constant challenges. Even after farming for 28 years, I still get schooled annually whether it be a new pest or production issue, weather prediction gone awry, or whatever else. Farming always keeps me on my toes, using my brain to problem solve whatever nature throws my way. Endless fun!
What’s in store for 2026… We’re mostly planning to keep doing what we do best- growing vibrant produce for you! We’re investing in some farm equipment to continue to prioritize farmworker health and safety. We have a grand re-opening in the works for our new farmstand in spring. Stay tuned for an invitation to come celebrate with us! Our CSA will run April through December, as usual. More info coming on that in the new year.
Before we gear up too much for 2026, we’re going to take some time to wind down this winter. Like the plants we cultivate, we plan to hibernate, rest and build up our energy stores over the next couple months. We hope you also get some quiet time this winter to just be and reflect.
Wishing you all the best,
Karyn
