What is CSA?

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) is based on the principle that individuals from the community subscribe to a local farm by providing financial support in the beginning of spring, when the farmers most need money to buy seeds and supplies. In exchange, each member receives a box of produce weekly throughout the season. This mutually beneficial partnership ensures a more secure market for small farms and provides members convenient access to healthier, safer, and tastier food. Our model allows more flexibility to join in month-by-month, and rewards those who make a larger commitment to the farm.

CSA is an ideal way to receive the bounty of Red Dog Farm’s distinguished organic vegetables, berries and flowers. Each week of the CSA season, you will receive a share of our harvest- five to eight items, depending on the season. We prioritize growing varieties that you love most and take care to ensure that each week’s share is a balance of items that compliment each other. We pick your produce fresh, and deliver to a pick-up location near your home.

By investing in Red Dog Farm CSA, you  become part of a larger movement of local agriculture in our community, as well as part of our farm. Each week, we send out newsletters highlighting happenings on the farm, recipes, storage tips, and deals on bulk crops like tomatoes and berries. You’ll get to meet our farm crew, hear of our successes and failures, and read farmer musings during all four seasons.

A few questions to think over before joining our CSA…

  • Do you value having fresh, local, organic produce?
  • Are you up for trying new vegetables?
  • Can you be flexible with your menu planning?
  • Are you ready for the experience of eating seasonally with the farm?
  • Is supporting a local farm and its farmers important to you?

If you answered yes to these questions, then consider yourself a great candidate for CSA! We value the commitment you are making to us and appreciate your confidence in us. If it seems like too much food/commitment/etc. for you there are many other ways to be a part of the Red Dog Farm 2024 Season: Dog Bucks, visiting us at the farmers markets or our Farmstand, or enjoying our produce at area restaurants or grocery stores.

No matter how you are a part of our 2024 season, you will experience the story of Red Dog Farm, our successes and our struggles.

Testimonials:

“This is our first year to join a CSA, and it has been wonderful. Not only is the produce so fresh and good; but it is like a treasure hunt, or grab bag. We don’t know what is coming each week. We anticipate the Tuesday newsletter, and then get creative, deciding what we will cook with what is coming. It’s good for the brain, not only the healthy food you’re growing for us all; but the creativity is good to keep the old gears a turning up there between my ears.”

“The quality is great and we feel that we are part of the farm. It is “our farm”!”

“I believe it helps the community at large to support our local farms. Also, local farmers are part of our community and I believe we are supporting ourselves when we support them. For example, I don’t feel the least bit concerned about news of this or that agricultural recall because I know where my lettuce comes from- down the road.”

“The quality of the produce is high, it’s a great price for the quantity and items.”

“Eating your beautiful, local produce each week is a wonderful opportunity for health and to support local farmers.”

“Our CSA share really opened our eyes to all of the delicious produce we were missing by shopping at the grocery store. The recipes were very helpful, as otherwise it would’ve been difficult to find recipes for exactly the produce we had.”

“We have been part of the CSA program for many years. My top reasons for rejoining are: fresh vegetables always in the fridge, supporting local producers, and my now grown kids learned to truly love vegetables!”
